The Perseid Meteors made a fairly poor show before midnight last night. I don't know if they put on a good show later because I had to retire to bed (some of us have to get up for work on a Monday morning). I saw a few bright-ish ones and managed to photograph a faint one.
As dusk arrived, it looked like it was going to be an ideal night for spotting the meteors. The sky was clear and the blue was fading to that lovely rich colour that occurs after sunset. Venus was shining like a searchlight in the southwest. This was a three second exposure (approx). The star effects on the lights are the result of stopping down to f8. The edges of iris blades scatter a small amount of the light.
A close up of Venus.
The picture below shows the constellations Cassiopia, in the top right and Perseus down near my hawthorn hedge. If you look at the top left of the picture you can see what looks like a tiny scratch. That is my faint meteor. Not a great result but a result none the less. The graininess is due to the fact that the contrast had to be turned up high to make the meteor show up at all. The ISO is also turned up high.
